Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more; it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. William Shakespeare

Συνεχώς σκέφτομαι αυτό που συντελείται μέσα στο κορμί μου, στη σκοτεινή, αόρατη ύλη του εαυτού μου. Το φαντάζομαι κάτι σαν το μωρό της Rosemary στην ταινία του Polansky με τη Mia Farrow και το John Kassavetes, ένα μικρό σατανικό τέρας μερικών εκατοστών να στριφογυρίζει σαν τρυπάνι μέσα μου, ένα πράγμα κάτι σαν σκουλήκι, γλοιώδες και γυαλιστερό, να σκάβει μικρές τρυπίτσες στα εσωτερικά μαλακά μάγουλα της μήτρας μου, να μασουλάει αδιάκοπα τα διάφορα όργανα του κορμιού μου. Αυτές τις μέρες, εκτός από τα νύχια μου και τα συκώτια μου, δεν τρώω απολύτως τίποτα. Ούτε τα καταπληκτικά εδέσματα του Μάριου μπορούν να με δελεάσουν. Η ιδέα της ασιτίας σφηνώνεται στο μυαλό μου και μοιάζει σαν την τέλεια λύση. Θα το πεθάνω της πείνας, Μαζί με μένα και αυτό. Πόσο θα αντέξει;
There are no songs left to sing
There are no songs left to sing
No poems left to write
The stars avert their gaze in a sky
Blacker than the bottom of a frying pan
Wondering in deep disgust
What world is this that sleeps but never dreams?
Where are the poets and the bards?
And the lovers who once sang praise
To our beauty and charms?
Where is Selene our pregnant lady of light
On whose silver belly men pondered
The myriad mysteries of life?
Snuffed are the beacons in the heavens above
The doom-mongers and the naysayers of the world
Speak the truth while the truth-sayers
Speak the truth while the truth-sayers
utter blasphemous lies in the ears
Of foolish men
The crimson tide roars drenching
The quick sands of drowning innocence
Choking on its own damned fury
While cries of Kyrie eleison go unheard
In the raging abyss of darkness above
No god claims the human beast
Who rears its gruesome head
And dreams no more.

My vices are as sweet as honey drops
My vices sweet as honey
drops thick and silky smooth
drops thick and silky smooth
how they quiver
like a second's pleasure
on your wayward gypsy tongue
like a second's pleasure
on your wayward gypsy tongue
when in gentle laps
it climbs my mons veneris
it climbs my mons veneris
and wipes the dew off
my sacred swollen mound
my sacred swollen mound
quenchimg for a dying moment
its ravishing thirst
then replenished
crafts its way through
ravines ruby deep and dark
its ravishing thirst
then replenished
crafts its way through
ravines ruby deep and dark
plunging right to the core
of my melting resistance
I can wait no more
and in sheer abandon
and in sheer abandon
I offer up my nakedness
in all its gruesome glory
as shamelessly as
a new born babe
I cry out my release
in tears of joy

My lover has no face
My lover has no face
No eyes no nose no lips
No eyes no nose no lips
Nor body I can hold
He is but a voice
a ghost of eloquence
Pervasive in my writhing ecstasy
I can not see him as he slips
Inside my oozing crevices
A stretched out drum of sheer sensation
In his transparency I become
In flaming tongues of poetry
He breathes new life into me

Ginsberg´s supermarket
I wandered into Ginsberg´s supermarket tonight
the neon chill crawled up and down the aisles
like bony fingers rippling my spine
I saw him there standing by the plums and avocadoes
stroking Whitman´s book in one hand
and the rolling hills of cantelopes in the other
sniffing their soft mellow belllies in sensual delight
I looked away embarassed ...pathetic it was
as was my own solitary aching and so
Ι turned to leave when out of nowhere
Edgar Allan Poe appeared before me
among the hot peppers and celery stalks
gaunt and ghostly in bleak black attire
his obnoxious raven perched on his middle fleshless finger
forever croaking nevermore.. nevermore ... nevermore
as it pecked at the ripe rotting tomatoes on display
like the aging whores in Amsterdam
I hurried on a in stark terror and stumbling
tripped over good ol' Rudyard Kipling
over by the frozen food section
muttering if,if, if,if, if, if,if,if,if,if
ad nauseam ....
never a more useless word thought I
and sweeping my gaze in another direction
beheld Archibald Leish's armless ambidextrian midget
match in hand setting fire to his big, fat toe
I had had enough and turned to retrace my steps
when lo and behold there he was Walt Whitman himself
amidst the hanging hams and headless cows
his beard pointing to the flashing word EXIT
as if directing me to abandon my senseless search
I felt cold inside and shivering incontrollably
pulled my collar up as I made my way
through the ghastly maze of twisted corridors
then grabbing a bottle of bourbon I hastened my step
until I got to the check out counter where stood
behind the cash register the black-hooded man twirling a giant pole
as if it were a baton at a circus side show
and taking my money showed me the exit
pointing to the wall that had no door
the neon chill crawled up and down the aisles
like bony fingers rippling my spine
I saw him there standing by the plums and avocadoes
stroking Whitman´s book in one hand

Like a worm
Like a worm
like a worm
you squiggle
in and out
round and about
poking here
digging there
nip a bud
trample a root
suck the sap
father baby worms
all slimy
slithery
slinking sleuths
crack the stems
crackle the leaves
devour the dung
wallop the water
plunder the soil
pilfer the pot
why should I care
after all
you are just a worm...

Jack o’ Lantern Days
Jack o’ Lantern Days
I remember there were days
All swaddled in white
And lit from within
Like smiling jack o’ lanterns
Days poised on the brink
Of a new revelation
I remember there were days
All frosted in pink
And sweet and lush at the heart
Like soft centered chocolate candy
Days lived in hushed promises
Of wonders to come
I remember there were days
All tucked away in dark corners
And lying cozy and still
Like gifts within a box
Waiting to be opened
On Christmas morning

Walk me in the rain
Walk me in the rain
let me smell the wooly moistness
of your sweater against my cheek
let me feel the velvet smoothness
of your burning cheeks against my brow
of your burning cheeks against my brow
let me kiss the quaking rain drops
that cling like morning dew upon your lashes
let me trace the lacy wetness
with my icy finger tips
laugh with me, dance with me
laugh with me, dance with me
feel the joyful tingling inside
the sweet abandon
the child-like glee
and when the rain is spent
take me home
and walk me in the rain
again....

I like things that are round
I like things that are round
I like things that are round
Like pumpernickel rolls, full moons
And the swollen bellies of pregnant women.
Sharp edges frighten me
I never turn corners, wear pointed shoes
Or talk to people with square heads
Like Picasso's or my neighbor's next door.
I envy snails, unborn babies
And the lesbians I’ve known.
I never visit gothic churches
Or looming pyramids of old
Instead I curl within
A furled up leaf within another
Gathering light
In visions rounder than a crystal ball
I walk in circles
Taking care not to step without
Onto jagged cliffs
Dagger sharp and aiming
Straight for the heart
And so
I remain within
A simple child
Forever reluctant to be born.

To J. Alfred Prufrock
To J. Alfred Prufrock
Shall we drift
together... apart?
Upstream ...downstream
Or no stream at all?
Do we dare to believe in mythical shores?
Within the spaces there is time
To reconsider and deny
To revise and compromise.
Within the lapses there is time
To reverse and curse
And stop the turning of the tide.
Can it be done?
Can it be done?
Can the moments be unraveled
Like the bunched up yarn upon the table
On the table waiting,waiting
Hoping to be undone?
So, do we dare?
Oh, do we dare?
Do we turn back upon those stairs?
Decide within a minute
What a minute can undo?
Do we dare
Oh, do we dare?
Look back without a care?
Shrug and say
What did it matter?
After all, what did it matter?
The waning fire,the cold disgrace
The licking fog upon our face?
Yes, I know, I know!
I grow old, I grow old!
I wear my trousers to the knee
I see bald corpses in my tea.
So let us go, then, Alfred dear
Let us go through “half-deserted streets”
To that restaurant with the oysters shells.
Let us get down to that business
To that final, gruesome business
As overwhelming as it is.
Shall we let the reaper in?
Yes, let us go and make that visit.
So what if the people come and go
Talking of Michelangelo?
Shall we drift
together... apart?
Upstream ...downstream
Or no stream at all?
Do we dare to believe in mythical shores?
Within the spaces there is time

To revise and compromise.

The note
It isn’t I ...no it isn’t I!
It is the jostled image
Of someone I once knew.
Not long ago.
Just yesterday it seems
I dreamt of gothic spires
Transcending clouds
And libraries thick and dark
With painted domes
And names like Carlyle and Descartes
Now the only names I know
Are in the local grocery store
At night I lie awake
And listen to my husband snore.
Tomorrow I will take a lover
Daytime hard and undercover.
Once I counted stars
Now it’s pennies gray hairs
And the years I have left
When my daughter's twenty
I’ll be fifty
If I’m lucky
Which I am not
Tonight I'll write that note
and stick it in my house dress pocket
Or better still
I'll start a story
Of a woman in distress
But first I'll bake a cake
And do the laundry
These things they can not wait
Once I'm done
I'll take my leave
Go after all those haunting dreams
My feet are cold
My slippers worn
My soul is torn
Tonight I'll draw my will
Disown my life and all its dribble
Leave my dishrag to my husband
Now asleep in sheets of grace
Not a worry line upon his face
How he hoards his little kisses
Tasteless things inside my mouth
A consolation prize I can do without
Time to make the tea
Time to make the tea
Oh, where's the kettle?
Dear me, where is the kettle?

Now that my days are almost done
Now that my days are almost done
The things I coveted when I was young
Now as inaccessible as my youth
Prevent my ageing gracefully
The things I coveted when I was young
Now as inaccessible as my youth
Prevent my ageing gracefully
So many unfulfilled desires
Some I recall
Οthers nudge a memory or two
The treehouse I never owned
The bike I never rode
Some I recall
Οthers nudge a memory or two
The treehouse I never owned
The bike I never rode
And the love I could not hold
In school I'd feel sublime
So sure I'd be a poet
Or a scholar of some kind
Always with my head in clouds
And feet an inch or two above the ground
So sure I'd be a poet
Or a scholar of some kind
Always with my head in clouds
And feet an inch or two above the ground
Whatever will become of her they’d say
And shake their heads in such dismay
Now I drag my feet
In worn-out slippers of defeat
I prowl the premises at night
Stumbling on the grieving ghosts
I prowl the premises at night
Stumbling on the grieving ghosts
Of things that never came to pass
A crib death of a kind
One hardly dares to speak about..
A crib death of a kind
One hardly dares to speak about..
