I like things that are round
I like things that are round
Like pumpernickel rolls, full moons
And the swollen bellies of pregnant women.
Sharp edges frighten me
I never turn corners, wear pointed shoes
Or talk to people with square heads
Like Picasso's or my neighbor's next door.
I envy snails, unborn babies
And the lesbians I’ve known.
I never visit gothic churches
Or looming pyramids of old
Instead I curl within
A furled up leaf within another
Gathering light
In visions rounder than a crystal ball
I walk in circles
Taking care not to step without
Onto jagged cliffs
Dagger sharp and aiming
Straight for the heart
And so
I remain within
A simple child
Forever reluctant to be born.
